Born on January 28, 1980, at McCook Community Hospital in McCook, Nebraska, Lacey was the beloved daughter of Susan and Wally Wilson. Her childhood was filled with experiences that helped shape the warm and compassionate person she would become. She began her educational journey in Oberlin, Kansas, before transferring to Indianola Elementary School as a third grader. Later, she attended school in McCook, where she would graduate from McCook High School in 1998.
During her high school years, Lacey was actively involved in track and softball, activities that reflected her determination, enthusiasm, and love of teamwork. Those who knew her during those years remember a young woman who approached life with positivity and a willingness to support others both on and off the field.
Following graduation, Lacey continued her education at McCook Community College and later attended the University of Nebraska at Kearney. Her pursuit of learning and personal growth reflected her commitment to making the most of every opportunity life presented.
One of the greatest joys of Lacey’s life was her marriage to her best friend, Brandon Kluender. The couple exchanged vows on June 15, 2022, during a beautiful coastal ceremony at the Newagen Seaside Inn in Southport, Maine. Their marriage was built on friendship, love, and shared adventures, creating a bond that brought happiness and fulfillment to both of their lives.
Together, Lacey and Brandon made their home in Norfolk before later moving to Stanton. Their relationship was characterized by mutual support and a genuine enjoyment of life’s simple pleasures. Whether attending Broadway shows, enjoying live music, discovering new restaurants, or simply spending quiet moments together, they treasured every opportunity to create memories side by side.
Professionally, Lacey brought passion and dedication to every role she undertook. She approached her work with enthusiasm and a strong work ethic that earned the respect of colleagues and friends alike. Alongside Brandon, she played an important role in the management team responsible for opening District Table and Tap, contributing to the success of a business that became a valued part of the community.
Those who knew Lacey often describe her as someone with a truly gentle soul. Her kindness extended naturally to everyone she encountered, and she had a unique ability to brighten the lives of others through simple acts of compassion. She believed in treating people with respect, offering encouragement when needed, and making those around her feel welcome and appreciated.
Among the greatest sources of joy in Lacey’s life were her beloved dogs—Auggie, Poppy, Pearl, and Benny. She adored her pets and found comfort, companionship, and happiness in caring for them. Her love for animals reflected the same nurturing spirit that defined so many aspects of her life.
Family was at the center of everything Lacey held dear. She cherished every opportunity to spend time with loved ones, particularly attending the sporting events and activities of her nieces and nephews. Watching them grow, celebrating their achievements, and supporting them in their endeavors brought her immense pride and happiness.
Holidays, family gatherings, and special occasions were treasured moments for Lacey. She understood the value of creating lasting memories with the people she loved most and approached those moments with gratitude and joy.
Lacey is survived by her devoted husband, Brandon; her parents, Susan and Wally Wilson; her brothers, Brady and Tyler, along with their spouses and children; her extended family, including in-laws, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews; and countless friends whose lives were enriched by knowing her.
She was preceded in death by several beloved family members whose memories she carried with her throughout her life. While their absence was felt, she honored their legacy through the love and compassion she shared with others.
A service celebrating Lacey’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 11, at Stonacek Funeral Chapel in Norfolk, with Rev. Randall Coffin officiating. The service will be livestreamed for those unable to attend in person. Inurnment will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Animal Shelter of Northeast Nebraska and/or Mercy Meals, causes that reflect Lacey’s caring and generous heart.
